Are you all also playing this silly "whack a mole" game versus You Tube now enforcing undue ads in this monopoly that came to be after all the promises it wouldn't?

Vivaldi blocks the youtube ads without having to install an ad blocker.
I was a big fan of the original Opera and like Vivaldi, but as long as it
reports itself as "chrome" I won't use it as my everyday browser.

I thought the same thing, but alas, YouTube eventually stopped playback for me when Vivaldi was blocking its ads. Google has been rolling out this 'feature' gradually on an account-by-account basis.

I might -- might -- tolerate ads if the likes of Google would give me an assurance that they have vetted the third-party servers injecting whatever they want into my devices. As far as I'm concerned, ads are a way to inject malware into devices, and don't tell me Google aren't complicit in this.

Not any longer.

I would like to know how Google get access to your browser to tell whether you're using an adblocker. Surely this is illegal?

Vivaldi is still a great browser though. Far, far better than Chrome, and they don't get into any of the political crap Mozilla thinks it's entitled to get into either.

Just fired up the latest version of Vivaldi and visited YouTube.
Sadly, you are both correct. Vivaldi no longer blocks the ads.
However, by trial and error, I found installing "Adblocker Ultimate" solves
the problem. At least the first few times I tried it.
Your mileage may vary.
Use at your own risk.
I have no affiliation with whatever company makes the aforementioned ad blocker.
