I have a wireless mouse/keyboard combo. It uses one reciever. The keyboard works perfectly, but I have to use the PS/2 mouse, the wireless mouse doesn't work. Does anyone know what my problem is.
on which distro is this? what kind of mouse? does the reciever connect via USB? the keyboard is recognized and working perfectly?
did you do mouseconfig? or edit your xorg.conf file under the mouse input section?
VectorLinux. Dynex Wireless Keyboard/Mouse Combo. It connects via USB. And yes the keyboard is recognized and working. The mouse does not work. I have to use a PS/2 mouse. I'm thinking that since it used 1 reciever it only thinks its the keyboard.
when the computer boots it should show the detected devices.. it might be displayed really fast but see if you can see them (use only the usb keyboard/mouse combo). i dont think its that linux only sees the keyboard, i think you need to configure it thats all.
search for edited xorg.conf file to configure the mouse here at lq.org and you should get it to work. or at least post the 1st mouse input device section from that file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf)

Here is something to compare it to. I installed slack with my logitech wireless mouse and keyboard. The only thing it didn't detect on install was the scroll button.
# "SendCoreEvents".
Identifier "Simple Layout"
Screen "Screen 1" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection
--------------------------------------------------------------
# Option "ChordMiddle"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
# The mouse device. The device is normally set to /dev/mouse,
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
# Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
EndSection
I also noted that xorg.conf states:
# On platforms where PnP mouse detection is supported the following
# protocol setting can be used when using a newer PnP mouse:
# Option "Protocol" "Auto"
If you can find this part, there are more suggestions after that.
When I changed the line for my scroll button to work, I had to reboot for it to take effect.
