So I am a linux Snr admininistrator for a about 5 years now, and i love it.I took the exam 3days ago and failed lol...So I wanna ask does anyone think there is something not right with thier exams results? and what have you done to remedy the issue.

The exam was really easy, and every question I can do in my sleep, yet I got a 205, 210 is the pass mark .It really makes little sense to me.So I'm thinking because I didnt spend $3400 on some course and just doing the exam for personal benefit,(so I wasnt represented by a company), I was failed, because they maybe thought I was sitting the exam to memorize questions and sell the answers to people.

sounds like you just got unlucky and just feel hard done by. Turning your failure into a conspiracy theory is pretty ridiculous.

I am not transforming my failure into more than what it is,so let me disabuse you of that notion first....second,suggesting that luck has anything to do with a hands on exam seems more ridiculous ....,whether they are or are not conforming to my "conspiracy theory" lollll can neither be proven or disproved due to a lack or transparency and reporting by red hat ,latinate exam marks (whether for good or bad)...I just wanted to know if anyone has taken the exam ,found it easy, thought they had a pass but failed and if so what was the remedy......getting this cert was for only my benefit ,I hold a B.A degree and 9 other certs,I Have no need to form conspiracy theories.

you think they failed you for reasons other than your competence. That IS a conspiracy theory, and it's insulting and wrong. Last time I checked, they were marked by an automatic testing server, it's not possible for them to fail you. it's a script. Boasting about your other qualifications doesn't change anything. You failed. End of story.

Every claim coming from you seems to be completely fatuous lol....if I wanted to boast I would have put it up as a signature for the entire forum to see whenever I make a post ...I made my statement to strengthen my point that I don't have to resort to conspiracy theories..if my theory insults you then deal with it...If tests are marked by a script then good,that's all that had to have been said for it to end there,I guess you just wanted to fill your post quota for the day so I get it ...yea I failed now, I will retake it and then send my pass result in an email just for you..then the story will end .

I'm guessing the biggest mistake from expert users on the RHCE exam is forgetting to make sure services are active --after-- a reboot. You may have done perfectly with configuring a whole mess of virtual hosts. If you forgot to activate httpd in appropriate runlevels, I don't think you'd get any credit, if that was part of your exam.

Yes, that can be a bit odd for admins who reboot Linux maybe once every decade or so....

In a similar fashion, if you run into SELinux issues, you need to make sure that appropriate files are configured with the right settings, upon reboot, in booleans, and in file_context.* files.

But if you want to appeal to Red Hat, I gather you wouldn't be the first one to do so. If you do appeal to Red Hat and get a change in score, please let us know (within the limits of the NDA, of course).

Thhank you mike for your response...to answer your questions,i actually made sure to remember to chkconfig on every program i installed...selinux was actually in permissive mode so had no selinux trouble.From extentive research on the net along with hind sight,i can only think of three things i might have done wrong,and that is to open port 80 in iptables even though i used elinks and tested that the website was displaying,to properly config /etc/hosts file and messing up an ldap question...If i got those correct if they were wrong in the first place,i might have marginally passed but i am more curious as to what i am getting wrong because i finished in time to triple check almost everything with a reboot so next time will just try to check EVERYTHING.

I just have a couple of comments about the posts from the two guys going back and forth about the test results.

The first comment is that I don't understand the vitriol coming from the responder.

The second is the lack of transparency for the exam does only Redhat any good by resulting in more retakes which result in more money for Redhat. A breakdown by category or objective would hurt no one and be useful as a guide of what to study further. If it's a fair test and broad enough to cover the topics that should be covered then you either know the material and can pass it or you don't and won't.

Thumbs down to Redhat for these tactics.

I agree with the last post. Red Hat should be more transparent and then no one would or could question their exams.
