I've just been logged out, too. First time that's ever happened. I've always had the "Remember Me" ticked.

We haven't changed anything on our end. Is this happening to anyone else?

I haven't seen this and I log on to LQ via a Citrix desktop at work - the log in remains. It also works at home when on Iceweasel.

Chrome works at home on Linux, and Firefox works here at school on the Windows XP PC's.

(TBH, I've never really had a problem with the log-in/out situation here on LQ.)

Hi,

Working fine here using either Firefox or Chrome. A couple of weeks ago this happened but since then not once again (after cleaning up the cookies).

Kind regards,

Eric

I am running Mandriva 2010.1 x86_64 (and sometimes i586) and Firefox 3.6.8
I always have this problem, and rarely look at LQ forums for this very reason - it's too frustrating.
I finally decided to look for a solution and found this thread.
I have manually removed all LQ cookies but no change.
I can log in with no problem, but as soon as I switch forum I am welcomed as a guest.
I have only been registered for a few months, but I have seen this behaviour from the start.

To verify:

* You're sure you've removed *all* LQ related cookies?
* You're checking the "Remember Me" box and allowing all cookies from LQ?

If so, are you using any Firefox addons or browsing through a proxy of any kind?

I just tested in Google-Chrome and there is no problem at all.
I can log in, close Chrome, open Chrome and I am still logged in - no issues at all switching forums.
In Firefox, I only have to sneeze and I am a guest - even when I am logged in via Chrome at the same time.
One thing I noticed in Firefox, was that the date shown for last log-in was incorrect (old) until I had logged in with Chrome. Then it displayed the updated date/time if that is any help.

So is there no solution to this problem at all?

Is there a Moz bug report on this or is it a vBulletin issue?

I have just installed Firefox 4.0b5 with no change.

I would like to follow this forum, but I am not going to change my browser just to use LQ!

barjac, this is actually the first time I've seen that completely clearing cookies and following the other linked instructions didn't rectify the situation. Since a different browser works for you, it seems clear that it's related to Firefox (but it's almost certainly something specific to your FF install, as FF remains by far the most popular browser here at LQ).

Yes you are quite right.
I have tried with a new user and there is no problem.
In the new user LQ has set about six cookies.
In my normal user it appears to be setting no cookies at all.
AFAICT there is nothing in my setup to stop cookies being set - I always allow all cookies.

Any ideas as to why it could fail to set them?

The only case in which LQ will not send cookies should be if you do not check the "Remember Me" box.
